Trolley Service

The City of San Juan Capistrano will be offering FREE special event trolley service on Saturday, December 1 from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration at HTC Park.  The service includes two trolleys on 20-minute frequencies servicing a continuous loop from downtown San Juan Capistrano (La Zanja Street northern terminus) to a trolley stop at Stonehill Drive and Del Obispo Street.



San Juan's Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration trolley route is a 20-minute loop starting from the El Adobe Plaza going south on Camino Capistrano to Del Obispo Street, west on Del Obispo Street to Alipaz Street, south on Alipaz Street to Camino Del Avion, west on Camino Del Avion to Del Obispo Street, south on Del Obispo Street to Stonehill Drive, east on Stonehill Drive to Camino Capistrano, north on Camino Capistrano to La Zanja Street, east on La Zanja Street to El Camino Real, south on El Camino Real to Acjachema Street to Camino Capistrano, and south on Camino Capistrano returning to the Mission Grill trolley stop before returning to the El Adobe Plaza.





The City’s next FREE special event trolley service will run on March 23, 2019, for the 61st Annual Swallows Day Parade and Mercado Street Fair. The Parade takes place throughout downtown San Juan Capistrano and is one of the nation’s largest non-motorized parades.  It is organized and presented by the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association.

On June 25, 2018, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Board of Directors approved Measure M2-Project V funding in the amount of $958,642 for the City of San Juan Capistrano.  The City's 10% match of $105,516 will be paid for thru eligible Air Quality Management District (AQMD) 2766 Subvention funds.  This grant allowed the City to purchase two trolleys and provide summer and special event trolley service for the next five years.  The grant is effectively July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2023.  Questions or comments regarding the program may be directed to the City's Assistant Public Works Director Tom Toman at (949) 234-4580 or email
