Information About Sustainability & Historic Preservation
People generally think that energy conservation conflicts with historic preservation, that historic preservation is somehow a "roadblock" to energy conservation practices. In fact, this is not true. Much study has been done recently on the benefits of combining sustainable practices with historic preservation. Many major historic rehabilitation projects at key landmark structures across the country have been awarded silver, gold and platinum LEED certification ratings. And as the saying goes, "the greenest building is the one that is already built."
