Members of the community can receive emergency information via social media and alerting and warning systems. Subscribing to these systems or following Twitter accounts of local agencies can provide important information on emergencies in the community. You can also receive information on mobile phones if the phone has enabled Government Alerts in the phone Notifications and Settings.

Emergency Alert System (EAS)

  • An EAS message is delivered by local television or radio stations such as KWVE FM 107.9 (Santa Ana) or KOGO AM 600 (San Diego). Based on the nature of the emergency, officials will activate the system to provide information and instructions to those who may be impactedEAS Logo

Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA)

  • More than 100 wireless carriers participate in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) program - including the largest carriers like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.
