“The Community Services Department is dedicated to enriching the lives of residents by providing a variety of recreational and leisure opportunities, as well as support services that meet the unique needs of the community.”

The Community Services Department is responsible for the development and delivery of comprehensive leisure/support services including community enrichment programs, and recreational experiences in well-maintained parks and facilities. The Department oversees public and group use of City facilities including the Community Center, City Gymnasium, Sports Park, athletic fields, Historic Town Center Park, Los Rios Park, the Community Garden, La Sala Auditorium and Courtyard, North West Open Space, and Reata Park and Event Center. Programs and services are available for pre-school age children to seniors. Additionally, the Department coordinates community-wide events such as the 4th of July Celebration, San Juan Summer Nites concert series, Spring Eggstravaganza, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, in addition to assisting in the annual Fiesta de Las Golondrinas Swallows Day Parade. The Department maintains updated information on the City website and monitors the City’s Facebook page. The Department provides direct staff support to the City’s Parks, Equestrian and Community Services Commission, and Youth Advisory Board community group, and works in partnership with local organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley; San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association; Age Well Senior Services; community youth/adult sport organizations; and various active community-based service groups.
