Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration

The City of San Juan Capistrano starts the holiday season with its’ annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration on Saturday, December 1, at Historic Town Center Park, located at 31852 El Camino Real. Festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. with pre-show entertainment followed by a holiday production featuring students of Musical Theater University. The countdown to the lighting of the City’s Christmas tree takes place at 5:45 p.m. at the show’s conclusion. Capistrano Valley High School’s marching band will lead a procession downtown after the ceremony where families can enjoy holiday activities such as photos with Santa, trackless train ride through Los Rios Park, a holiday puppet show,  live nativity performances, story time with Mrs. Claus, snow globe craft, greet costumed characters Elsa and Olaf of “Frozen” along with the “Grinch.” Activities take place at  Los Rios Park, ZOOMARS and the O’Neill Museum.  Downtown merchants will have extended shopping hours and are offering complimentary refreshments. Parking is limited so visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle and trolley services offered.  Shuttles will be pick-up visitors from two Park and Ride Locations; JSerra Catholic High School – 26351 Junipero Serra Rd. and South Coast Church, located at 31501 Avenida Los Cerritos. The city trolley will follow the same route as the summer program, with one additional stop at Mission Grill Restaurant.  For a complete activity schedule visit www.sanjuancapistrano or call Community Services at (949) 493-5911.
