Cities, Residents and Property Owners Not Consulted on Homeless Shelter Proposals
Earlier this week, iHope, a Lake Forest-based organization, held a media tour proposing a number of potential locations for homeless shelters in the cities of San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente and Dana Point. Unfortunately, none of the three cities were consulted by iHope in the development of these proposed locations. To our knowledge, iHope also failed to consult with adjacent residents or businesses in identifying these sites. The iHope-proposed locations have generated significant media attention and understandable community concern. Today, the three cities issued a joint statement (click here) regarding the challenges associated with iHope’s unilateral action. The joint statement explains the collaborative and thoughtful efforts currently underway to identify a suitable site for an emergency shelter in South Orange County, in response to a request by U.S. District Judge David O. Carter.
