Call for Applications for the Youth Advisory Board

Applications are now being accepted from the residents of the City of San Juan Capistrano who are interested in serving on the City Council appointed Youth Advisory Board.  Youth Member appointees serve a one year appointment, and take office in September to coincide with the school year.  Adult Advisor appointees serve a two year term until September 2020.  Fifteen youth member vacancies and two adult advisors vacancies exist on the Youth Advisory Board. The Board serves as a liaison between the City's youth and the City Council. Only youth members are voting members. The Board submits recommendations to the City Council for special events, programs, and fundraising events. The Board meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber.  Applications are available HERE on the City's website and at the Office of the City Clerk, located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto.

 

Application forms will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018. All questions concerning the commission or the application process should be directed to the City Clerk’s Office at (949) 493-1171.

This is an opportunity to meet Lt. Carl Bulanek, the City’s new Chief of Police Services, and get to know the deputies that serve your community. Free Disaster Preparedness Training

The City of San Juan Capistrano – Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program prepares residents to be self-reliant in the event of a natural disaster. Attendees are trained to take care of their family, neighbors, and to assess hazards before and after a disaster occurs. Our 20 hour FEMA-based course is free to San Juan Capistrano residents.  Classes include both classroom and hands-on training in: Disaster Preparedness, Terrorism Awareness, Fire Safety, Disaster Medical Operations, Light Search and Rescue, Disaster Psychology and Incident Command.  Our next CERT training series begins on Monday, January 22.  For more information please call (949) 443-6304 or visit SJC-CERT.

Sandbags for San Juan Capistrano Residents

The weather forecast calls for measurable rain over the next 24 hours.  As a courtesy to residents, the City provides empty sandbags free-of-charge for flood control purposes.  San Juan Capistrano residents can pick up ten empty sandbags at City Hall, located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto, during regular business hours (7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mon – Thu, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fri).  Additionally, the Orange County Fire Authority provides empty sandbags at Fire Station 7, located at 31865 Del Obispo Street, any time.  Residents can fill their own bags using the sand pile located in the Library parking lot at 31495 El Camino Real. Residents can also purchase filled sandbags at a variety of suppliers listed on the attached supplier list.  However, residents are encouraged to contact the supplier first to confirm availability.
