This is an opportunity to meet Lt. Carl Bulanek, the City’s new Chief of Police Services, and get to know the deputies that serve your community. The City of San Juan Capistrano – Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program prepares residents to be self-reliant in the event of a natural disaster. Attendees are trained to take care of their family, neighbors, and to assess hazards before and after a disaster occurs. Our 20 hour FEMA-based course is free to San Juan Capistrano residents.  Classes include both classroom and hands-on training in: Disaster Preparedness, Terrorism Awareness, Fire Safety, Disaster Medical Operations, Light Search and Rescue, Disaster Psychology and Incident Command.  Our next CERT training series begins on Monday, January 22.  For more information please call (949) 443-6304 or visit SJC-CERT.

Sandbags for San Juan Capistrano Residents

The weather forecast calls for measurable rain over the next 24 hours.  As a courtesy to residents, the City provides empty sandbags free-of-charge for flood control purposes.  San Juan Capistrano residents can pick up ten empty sandbags at City Hall, located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto, during regular business hours (7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mon – Thu, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fri).  Additionally, the Orange County Fire Authority provides empty sandbags at Fire Station 7, located at 31865 Del Obispo Street, any time.  Residents can fill their own bags using the sand pile located in the Library parking lot at 31495 El Camino Real. Residents can also purchase filled sandbags at a variety of suppliers listed on the attached supplier list.  However, residents are encouraged to contact the supplier first to confirm availability.

1/11 Marine Battalion Toy Drive

Help support the City’s Adopted 1/11 Marines and their families by donating a new, unused toy for children age 0-12. Collection bins are located at City Hall (32400 Paseo Adelanto) and the Community Center (26925 Camino Del Avion). Donations will be accepted now through December 15. Planning Commission Vacancy - Applications Accepted

Applications are still being accepted from San Juan Capistrano residents to fill one vacancy on the Planning Commission. The City Council-appointed commissioner will serve a term through March 31, 2019. The appointee must be a registered voter in the City of San Juan Capistrano.  The appointee is also required by State Law to file Fair Political Practices Commission Conflict of Interest Statements upon appointment, annually, and upon leaving office. For a detailed description of Planning Commission responsibilities and to download the application, please visit the City’s website HERE. Applications, including a supplemental questionnaire, will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Office of the City Clerk located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto.  The applications will be reviewed by the City Council, with interviews conducted at an open session meeting, tentatively scheduled for December 13.  All questions concerning the Planning Commission or the application process should also be directed to the Office of the City Clerk at (949) 493-1171.
