Del Obispo Closure at Railroad Crossing
On Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, Metrolink crews will be performing nighttime track maintenance along Metrolink’s Orange County line. On these two evenings, Del Obispo Street, between Camino Capistrano and Alipaz Street, will be closed from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The work is scheduled to be completed by 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 10. Detour signs will be positioned to direct all vehicles and pedestrians to alternate routes. The City and Metrolink have coordinated with the Sheriff’s Department and Fire Authority to ensure that public safety services will not be affected during the street closure. According to Metrolink, potential impacts during the work could include noise from equipment back-up alarms, noise and vibrations from construction machinery, and increased lighting. Proposed River Street Project Draft EIR Available for Review
The Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the proposed River Street Marketplace Project is currently available for public review and comment. The 5.86-acre project site is located at the southeast corner of Paseo Adelanto and River Street, just north of Del Obispo Street. The project site, which is currently occupied by Ito Nursery, is proposed to be developed with 64,900 square feet of commercial and office space in five buildings. The DEIR identifies potential impacts that would result from the proposed project and identifies mitigation measures to ensure that the proposed project would not result in any significant, adverse effects on the environment. The DEIR’s public review period began Wednesday, January 30, 2019, and ends on Monday, March 18, 2019. Copies of the DEIR and supporting documents are available for public review at the City’s Planning Division (32400 Paseo Adelanto) and at the Library (31495 El Camino Road). The DEIR can also be accessed on the City's website. Comments on the DEIR from agencies and individuals are encouraged and will be accepted during the public review period. Comments on the DEIR should be mailed to: David Contreras, Principal Planner, 32400 Paseo Adelanto, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675, or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Following the close of the public review period, the City will prepare responses to all comments for inclusion in the Final EIR. The Final EIR will need to be certified as complete by the City Council prior to making a decision to approve or deny the project.
E-Waste and Shredding Event – May 4, 2019
The City of San Juan Capistrano is partnering with Goodwill of Orange County and Southern California Shredding, Inc. for an e-waste and shredding event on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This event will take place in the City Hall Parking lot located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto. This is an opportunity to dispose of electronic waste such as old cell phones, computers, monitors, printers, toner cartridges, scanners, VCR/DVD players, TVs, microwaves and other small appliances free of charge. No household hazardous waste, such as paint, oil, and pesticides can be accepted. This event will also provide an opportunity to have sensitive records securely destroyed for free. The mobile, on-site shredding truck provides the highest standard of security in document shredding. Shredding is limited to no more than four regular-sized file boxes per car. The event is on a first come, first served basis. Once the trucks are full, the event will close. Spring "Eggstravaganza" Event
The City of San Juan Capistrano, with support from local organizations, is hosting a “Spring Eggstravaganza” event for kids ages 2 - 12 on Saturday, April 13, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Los Rios Park (31790 Paseo Adelanto). Activities include egg hunts, face painting, puppet show, petting zoo, crafts, games, inflatable bounce house and bunny photos. All activities are free! Del Obispo Widening Project Receives Award
The Del Obispo Street Widening and Improvement Project has been selected by the Orange County Engineering Council (OCEC) to receive the Outstanding Project Achievement Award. The OCEC celebrates the accomplishments and high quality work of the engineering and scientific communities of Orange County. The project improvements included the removal of a "pinch point" at Paseo Terraza, improving vehicular and pedestrian safety. There are now two travel lanes and a bike lane in both directions, as well as new sidewalk and street lights on the westerly side of the street. The project was completed under budget and on schedule, and was partially funded by a Measure M2 grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority.

The City is seeking input from agencies and organizations that assist persons with disabilities, as well as individuals with disabilities, to help the City enhance accessibility to its facilities, programs, services and events. Storm Preparedness - Sandbags Available at City Hall
As a courtesy to residents, the City provides empty sandbags free-of-charge for flood control purposes. San Juan Capistrano residents can pick up ten empty sandbags at City Hall, located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto, during regular business hours. Additionally, the Orange County Fire Authority provides empty sandbags at Fire Station 7, located at 31865 Del Obispo Street. Residents can fill their own bags using the sand pile located in the Library parking lot at 31495 El Camino Real or residents can purchase filled sandbags at a variety of suppliers. City Council Meeting of November 6 Rescheduled to Monday, November 5
The City Council has rescheduled its regular meeting of Tuesday, November 6, to encourage voter participation in the November 6, 2018, General Election. The meeting has been rescheduled for Monday, November 5, at 4:00 p.m. for Closed Session and 5:00 p.m. for public Business Session.
The regular meetings of the Successor Agency and Housing Authority are also rescheduled for November 5 at 5:00 p.m. Please contact the City Clerk’s office at (949) 493-1171 with any questions.
