1/11 Marine Battalion Toy Drive

Help support the City’s Adopted 1/11 Marines and their families by donating a new, unused toy for children age 0-12. Collection bins are located at City Hall (32400 Paseo Adelanto) and the Community Center (26925 Camino Del Avion). Donations will be accepted now through December 15. Holiday Ice Skating Event - December 9 & 10

The Youth Advisory Board will be hosting an Holiday Ice Skating Event at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano on December 9 and 10. There is no entry fee charge for this activity and ice skating will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on both days. There will be a $5.00 charge for ice skate rentals per person. The minimum age to participate is 4 years old. All proceeds will support Christmas gifts for the underserved youth of San Juan Capistrano. This fun event is sponsored by Blenheim Facility Management and will be held at 30753 La Pata Avenue, San Juan Capistrano. Applications are still being accepted from San Juan Capistrano residents to fill one vacancy on the Planning Commission. The City Council-appointed commissioner will serve a term through March 31, 2019. The appointee must be a registered voter in the City of San Juan Capistrano.  The appointee is also required by State Law to file Fair Political Practices Commission Conflict of Interest Statements upon appointment, annually, and upon leaving office. For a detailed description of Planning Commission responsibilities and to download the application, please visit the City’s website HERE. Applications, including a supplemental questionnaire, will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Office of the City Clerk located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto.  The applications will be reviewed by the City Council, with interviews conducted at an open session meeting, tentatively scheduled for December 13.  All questions concerning the Planning Commission or the application process should also be directed to the Office of the City Clerk at (949) 493-1171.

Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration - December 2

The City of San Juan Capistrano begins the holiday season with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration this Saturday, December 2, rain or shine, at Historic Town Center Park, located at 31852 El Camino Real. Festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. with pre-show entertainment followed by a holiday production featuring performances by the students of Musical Theater University.  The official lighting of the City’s Christmas tree takes place at 5:45 p.m. at the conclusion of the show. Immediately following the ceremony, take a stroll downtown and enjoy activities at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, Los Rios Park and ZOOMARS. Downtown merchants have extended shopping hours and will offer free refreshments.  Due to limited parking, visitors are encouraged to take the free shuttle service offered.  Shuttles will be offered from 3:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the Park and Ride at Junipero Serra and Rancho Viejo Road, JSerra Catholic High School and South Coast Church, located at 31501 Avenida Los Cerritos. E-Waste and Shredding Event – November 18, 2017

The City of San Juan Capistrano is partnering with Goodwill of Orange County and Southern California Shredding, Inc. for an e-waste and shredding event on Saturday, November 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This event will take place in the City Hall Parking lot located at 32400 Paseo Adelanto. This is an opportunity to dispose of electronic waste such as old cell phones, computers, monitors, printers, toner cartridges, scanners, VCR/DVD players, TVs, microwaves and other small appliances free of charge. No household hazardous waste, such as paint, oil, and pesticides. This event will also provide an opportunity to have sensitive records securely destroyed for free. The mobile, on-site shredding truck provides the highest standard of security in document shredding. Shredding is limited to no more than four regular-sized file boxes per car. The event is on a first come, first served basis. Once the trucks are full, the event will close.  Questions regarding the e-waste and shredding event may be directed to City Hall at (949) 234-4400 or email to environment@sanjuancapistrano.org.
